Overview

The [VS-UK] Clan was formed by a core group of around 12 founding members in December 2001, following the multiplayer demo release of the classic World War 2 game, Medal of Honour. Almost all the founders were active members and staff of the UK Division of VATSIM, the Virtual Air Traffic Simulation Network; a global network of over 30,000 Air Traffic Controllers and Pilots who control and fly virtual commerical airlines on-line, in real time.

The VS-UK way

The [VS-UK] Clan is broadly based on the 9th Battalion of the 3rd Parachute Brigade, British 6th Airborne Division of the World War 2 era. We aim to provide a community that offers organisation, communication and, above all, comradeship as its 3 key elements. The clan is open to anyone who shares this vision and wants to embrace these qualities both on and off the field of battle, as part of the team.

Unlike many clans we rely heavily on tactics and strategy. Like in reality, we try to create a cohesive fighting unit and we have little room for free spirits or loan wolves (although snipers and surging attacks from 1 or 2 soldiers is a tactic often used). Clan members rely on each other for support and back-up and it cannot be stressed enough how important fighting as a unit is.

Each and every clan member can expect the following from [VS-UK]:

Organization

We have a strict military styled command structure spread over multiple divisions (where members of a like battalion all play the same game). We expect every soldier to carry out his duty, observe the command line and be a team player, whatever his or her ability. We currently support a large number of our own dedicated servers which are available all the time (with more to come). Regular training sessions and clan matches are organised and members get access to the general and tactical forums on the website where mission maps, briefings and tactics are stored. Promotions and Medals are awarded for displaying commitment and getting involved.

Communication

We rely heavily on Team Speak for online communication as it is a vital part of our strategy. Good communication during the heat of battle is as powerful as a snipers rifle, and is an effective weapon in itself. [VS-UK] also has an extremely active forum community which can be reached via a link in the navigation section of this site.

Comradeship

Although we take the game seriously, it is important to remember that it is only a game and the ultimate aim of every [VS-UK] member is to have fun, enjoy themselves and discover new friends.

Tournament History

[VS-UK] are the Champions of the 2006, 2007 and 2008 MPL Tournament (for Call of Duty 2 and 4) and have been major runners-up in most competitions we've entered since 2001. We also hold many friendly ties to other gaming clans and enjoy a remarkably friendly and casual atmosphere.

Ranks

The [VS-UK] Clan is based on a real world military rank structure. All new members are expected to start at Cadet rating when they join.

In order to progress through the ranks, members are expected to show time spent playing on a regular basis, attending training, joining clan matches and representing the clan with a good team spirit.

Ranks are separated into 2 main groups; Commissioned Officers (ranks of 2Lt. and above) and Non-Commissioned Officers (Cdt to RSM).

You can view the full list of ranks at the VS-UK website.
