Microsoft is a multinational company developing software for computing devices.
It supplies Operating Systems under the brand name Windows for a broad range of platforms, varying from cellular phones to mission critical servers.
In the later years Microsoft has also entered the field of Video game consoles with the Xbox and the Xbox 360.
Timeline
Microsoft was founded in 1975 and incorporated in 1981.
1981 was also they year that saw the release of their first operating system, MS-DOS 1.0, on the IBM PC.
This first OS had simple command line interaction.
From 1990 and on Microsoft released a series of operating systems with a graphical user interface, the first being Windows 3.0 and the latest being Windows Vista released in 2007.
During this time Microsoft has gained dominance on other fields than just the operating system, the most noticeable being Internet Browsers with Internet Explorer, and the Microsoft Office package which contains application used across the world, such as Microsoft Word.
