Micro Machines is a top-down racing game featuring miniaturized toy cars, developed by Codemasters and published by Camerica for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1991, and re-released again in a compact cartridge which required the Aladdin Deck Enhancer which was also created by Codemasters.

Micro Machines is the first of an eight game series that has spanned over multiple platforms including the Amiga, Sega Master System, CD-i, Game Gear, Mega Drive/Genesis, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Game Boy and Playstation 2 between the years 1991 and 2006.

Gameplay

In Micro Machines, you were pitted up against three opponents, and the main goal to complete each racing stage, is to defeat at least one of them. If you do not finish in at least third place, you are then eliminated, and unable to continue. At first, the game begins really easy, and the occasional straying from the main barriers, or falling prey to the many traps on the courses will be easy to recover from. However, as you progress through the game, even a single accident will cause you to fall so far behind as to never be able to catch up with the other three opponents. In this manner, it is a lot like RC Pro Am.

As you progress throughout each stage, you're given a wider selection of cars to use, which adds an element of flavor to the game.

Music

The music in this game is nothing short of spectacular for a NES game. Each stage offered a wide assortment of music that was pleasant to the ears.

Ending

There doesn't appear to be an ending to this game, of course, much like other NES games out there, the difficulty of this game could be ramped up so high that it is almost impossible for all but the most dedicated of players to reach it.

Character Selection

You can choose your character in Micro Machines.
You can choose your character in Micro Machines.

One of the more unique features of the game is that you're allowed to select a character to play as. You're also allowed to choose your opponents in this game. From what is seen, every character has the same AI - but each character has a tendency to pick a certain type of micro machine car. Each car and each character appear to function the same, so there doesn't appear to be any actual benefits to the selections made beyond the aesthetic and diversity reasons.
