Help:ReflistFrom EncyClanPedia(Redirected from Help:References)
Reference tags.So you've finished your Wiki-page, and you've got a buttload of references that you want to add to it, but don't know where to begin. What then? Well my friends, it's as simple as[1] <ref>pie.</ref> You'll notice that if you click the pretty blue number beside the word as, it'll take you to a bottom list of references. But say you don't want to add pie as your reference. Say you want to add a proper link? Well that my friends requires a little thinking. If you wanted to add google as your reference, you'd have to add the full url of www.google.com, and not just the World Wide Web part.[2] <ref>http://www.google.com</ref> But wait! Theres no text! How will the peons know what the link leads to without it!? Well, thats quite simple. Just add text before the link. Say your reference is to Pie, which was found on a site from Google. It really is as easy as[3] <ref>pie: http://www.google.com</ref> Viola! A perfect reference to make life easier on the readers. Plus it makes your page look official. Proper Formatting, aka the tricky stuff.Of course, using the reference tags can be difficult, if you already don't know how to use them properly. Here on the EncyClanPedia, we believe that references should always be included at the end of a sentence. Still, you're welcome to put it in the middle,[4] but only if you're consistant in it's use.[5] Having it sloppily thrown around will warrant an edit, should it be found by one of our staff. Likewise, if you notice that a page is formatted with references in a particular, please be considerate, and accept their preference. Please don't change it on them, unless you happen to notice that it is being used improperly. It's generally considered very rude to completely edit a writer's personal stylized Wiki, rather than to simply add onto it. Again, please be considerate, otherwise the Staff'll have to take action, and nobody wants that to happen.
Other UsesConsidering this is a Wiki that caters to Games, we assume that the reference tags will be used mostly for the review box at the very bottom of our beloved Games Info Box Template. As of such, we felt it was necessary to show you how to use it properly. We'll begin with an example.

Notice how there are no reviews in that box? Well, we'd prefer that you added at least one or two reviews to help our readers come to a better understanding of the game. After all, there is life outside of the EncyClanPedia (god forbid!) So, to do so, follow the simple steps that you were taught earlier, and add the following to the reviews equation.
Gamespot<ref>Gamespot Review: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/battlefield2/review.html</ref> Firing Squad<ref>Firing Squad Review: http://www.firingsquad.com/games/battlefield_2_review/</ref> IGN<ref>IGN Review: http://pc.ign.com/articles/627/627218p1.html</ref> Gamespy<ref>Gamespy Review: http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/battlefield-2/626911p1.html</ref> }}

You're free to format the reviews box however you like. Just please try to make the box look neat. The easiest way to do this, is by merely keeping all of the '|reviews=text' on the same line. (Although it automatically moves the text to the next line, if you run out of space on the first. Kind of like with Word Pad, or Microsoft Word.)
Reflist: The Automatic References header on the bottom (This is important so read this!)This is a very easy one to explain. It's a simple template. All you have to do, to get the References Header, plus the listing of all of the references you've just made, is type out {{Reflist}}
Notice how it's the same name as the Help Page? Theres a reason for that. It's because it's the most important part! Make sure to add it at the BOTTOM of the page, but ABOVE almost any other pre-made templates like {stub} for instance. Other than that. You should be golden! Good luck and happy Wiki'ing! References
