Overview

Fossils Playing Shooters, also known as FPS, is a group of adult gamers. Formed on January 9, 2008 the members all met while playing at the now defunct BandOfBrothers gaming community. We try not to take our gaming too seriously and you won't find us at TWL or CAL. We are college students and professionals with families and responsibilities and so we treat gaming as a hobby instead of a full-time job.

History

While FPS as it's own entity has existed for only a short while, the founding group has been playing together over the past 1-2 years. We all began playing together back in Battlefield 2 and proceeded to move to Battlefield 2142. As BF2 and 2142 grew stale, we experimented with Team Fortress 2 and the beta for Frontlines: Fuel of War. Eventually our previous community settled on Call of Duty 4 and we have stayed with that game as we struck out on our own.

Present Day

Currently, we are enjoying all of the wonderful user-created maps that have been generated since the mod tools were released. We run our own Call of Duty 4 server utilizing the AWE4 mod along with a collection of fun, stable new maps. We utilize TeamSpeak as our primary means of communication and we are actively searching for recently unearthed fossils who are looking for new friends to game with.

We do plan to evaluate FFoW as something we might play in addition to CoD4 or in place of CoD4. We were not particularly impressed by the beta so we intend to wait for the demo in March before making any final decisions. If we do play FFoW, we will have our own server for that game as well.

Recruitment

We are currently recruiting mature gamers who are at least 21 years old. The application process consists of a brief survey on our website. After submitting an application, prospective members simply need to join our TeamSpeak server and play with us. There is a trial period of 2-4 weeks (depending on an individual's activity level) where we just want to get to know our future additions. As a group we get along quite well and to preserve that level of cohesion we just want to make sure our new members will be a good fit.

  1. war mp_warehouse - Warehouse is a very small, close-in map. It's great for small-scale battles!
  2. dom mp_shipment2 - Shipment2 is about 400% larger than the original, yet it retains a similar feel. We think the game play on Shipment2 is really fun!
  3. war mp_locality - Locality is a small city map where the action is always nearby. There's no running all over the map looking for someone to kill with Locality!
  4. war mp_rats08 - Rats08 is the best version I've seen yet of the "toy soldiers" type of map. For those who don't know, the scale has been radically changed to make the toons the size of little army men fighting in a one-room cabin. There's lots of great places to explore!

  7. dom mp_contamination_one - Contamination One puts the players in an underground bunker where they fight for control of the play areas.
  8. sab q3ctf3 - The classic Quake 3 map also known as Stronghold is a nice change of pace from the typical CoD4 map. This version includes a custom sound track!

    • Our server has very fast map downloads (some members report downloads in excess of 900KB/s) so don't worry if you don't have these custom maps installed already.
    • The server streams to both PunksBusted.com and PBBans.com and we actively monitor players for cheats of any kind. If you cheat in our server, you will be banned from over 3,000 Call of Duty 4 servers.
