Background

The mod was first founded by Frank Delise, when he announced the production of a modern warfare mod on 5th October 2002. The mod was originally named 'Desert Storm', based on the first Guilf War. He worked alone on making new models for the mod, including MLRS, A-10, B-1 Lancer, and Humvee. This has gained a lot of attractions, and eventually more and more volunteers joined him to increase the pace on the development.[1]

The first public alpha was released on 20th December 2002 under the name of Desert Combat, and it soon became very popular. Frank Delise and his team continued on the work as the mod and the community grew. In 2003 he founded Trauma Studios.

On 1st September 2004, Digital Illusions CE bought Trauma Studios[2]. Most of the staff worked together with DICE on the upcoming game Battlefield 2, therefore developments on the mod have come almost to a halt. However, some of the mod developers did not join Trauma Studios and continued the modding together with fans to build the last version in the form of a minimod, known as Desert Combat Final.

Minimods

Due to its popularity, a lot of minimods of Desert Combat have been created from fan communities. While Desert Combat Final is the best known minimod, there are others such as Desert Combat Extended, Desert Combat Realism, and Desert Combat Final Extended.
