December's Choice: Eve of Terror

EncyClanPedia's very first ever listed clan, is none other than the Eve of Terror, and thankfully for our sake, they are a very well established mature group with a rich and diverse history of gaming over the past ten years. They've been known to play across a wide scope of first person shooters, and have become well known in many circles as both strong competitors, and great guys to just play around with.

Eve of Terror was founded in the year 2000, by their current leader EoT.Patton, who had agreed to do an interview for us. (More on the interview later) Eve of Terror's roots can be found in the classic game Unreal Tournament, and have migrated over the course of four other games over the past 7 years of their existence. This is something of a feat, when you take into consideration the average lifespan of the average clan. Eve of Terror however, did have it's own shares of tough times. Upon it's move to the game Battlefield 2, they ran into problems due to many of it's members being unwilling to upgrade their computers, to be able to play the game. However, persistence and perseverance are not in short supply with this clan, they wisely choose to merge with a larger clan known as The Skull Collectors, who harbored them, and allowed them to stay together. Then when The Skull Collectors ran into the same hardships, and disappeared into almost non-existence, Eve of Terror's leader EoT.Patton and his most loyal officers and friends, EoT.Steele and EoT.maddogjji, quickly picked up the peices, and rebuilt Eve of Terror's former glory, with the help of the friends they made in The Skull Collectors.

Today, Eve of Terror can be found playing Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for the most part, and they boast over twenty members, and a competitive edge in the TeamWarfare League where they compete, with some very skillful teamwork oriented players. Be sure to check out their website at ClanEoT - and drop them a line. Feel free to say hello, challenge them to a match in Call of Duty 4, or maybe even apply to join them.

X-fire Interview with EoT.Patton, the Leader of EoT.

I originally had a large number of questions to ask EoT.Patton, but he was more than capable of preemptively answering most of them, before I even got a chance to ask them! So, while this installment might be smaller than my other interviews in quantity, it certainly makes up for it with the quality of his answers.

Reporter: How did Eve of Terror get started in competitive gaming?

EoT.Patton: Competitive gaming was always on my mind and our member's minds. In fact, during our time in battlefield 2, one member by the name of Greencastle pressured me to become active in TWL and hopefully other tournaments down the road. We've always enjoyed working as a team, but wanted to prove our skills. It goes back further than that of course. Back when EoT, was first founded, we've enjoyed just playing in servers for a few months, but it became rather boring to be honest. We wanted it to be more of a challenge, especially as we worked as a team. Pubbers honestly didn't live up to our expectations, so we've decided to take it to the next level and get involved in team-oriented matches.

The match that truly initiated us into becoming a competitive clan was a Joint Operations match against one of the top ranked clans. Everybody said they couldn't be stopped after going 12-1. They were only defeated by quite literally the top clan at the time. When we lost due to just a bad mistake on an individual member's part, we released we had a knack for teamwork based gameplay and thus, we've stuck with it throughout Battlefield 2 and now Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

Reporter: What do you believe sets you apart from other clans in terms of community?

EoT.Patton: Thats an interesing question, and I am glad that you have asked. Every clan in my opinion will have their relationships, right? Well, I feel that EoT, is slightly different. We're more family-based than anything else, and by that I do not mean relatives. I mean, we all grow a very strong bond where even eight years later you're receiving Christmas cards from people overseas who are old enough to be your grandfather. Not only that, but this person in question writes notes in the card, not only to you but to your entire family. Thats how family-based we are. We've gained a strong connection on a more personal note than just gaming.

Yes, I do think that other clans have this connection, but ours goes deep to the point where people actually visit fellow clan-members from half-way around the world. There have even been wedding invitations, where people are asked to be the best man! There is something about everyone who enter's EoT's doors of acceptance that really appeal to us. You won't ever hear us argue with each other. In a way, I wish I could have that relationship with a female.

Reporter:If you could give advice to anybody out there who is aspiring to join EoT, what would you suggestion to them?

EoT.Patton: Hah, well, lets see, my dear friend SleepyWeasel wanted me to include him in this interview, but I would stay away from him. Hes a joker, and he will go off on about how good you look, and how he likes you in a dress. Hes an exception to what we look for in a member. But in all honesty, what we do look for is maturity. We have gamers nearing their 50's in this clan, and the last thing we need are teenagers who whine.

If you're looking for a clan to fight right into, and a group of guys who truly wanna get to know you, stop by our Ventrilo. It's always opened to the public, and we'd love to see new faces who stop in to say hello. It's always a pleasure. Truly, our main goal as a clan is to be here for the community. Our public servers are mainly for the community out there. We want to build a place where people can come in and have a good time with active and understanding admins who don't jump the gun. We're always willing to hear advice, concerns or questions. So if you're looking for a clan, start thinking about Eve of Terror! Rock on! Feel free to look around our Clan-Wiki, browse our forums, get to know us, or even Interrogate us if you feel it's neccessary. We'd love to answer questions from prospecting members. We're always looking to add to the family!

We hold practice a few times a week, mainly on call when we see enough people online at the same time. The founders and leaders each give their cell phone numbers out to members in case somebody can not make it to a match, practice or scrim. This is just one of the family builders we've implemented. The trait of respect. Members here go out of their way to make us aware of when they go inactive or where they will be ahead of time. Though we are based in the United States, we do have a few people like Blepo1990 in the United Kingdom. We will accept anyone, regardless of location, especially if you're interested in competitive play. We have public servers for a reason, and you will always see some EoT.'s in there. Because of this, we consider our clan "Casual" and "Competitive. We try to give a little bit of everything to make our clan, and family accessable for anyone and everyone.
