Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is a first-person shooter game, that was developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision for Windows, Playstation 3, and the X-box 360.
Summary
Stepping away from their safe and usual boundaries of World War II, Activision and Infinity Ward have given birth to the new standard of combat First Person Shooters. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was released November the 6th across North America, where it was met with a great round of applause from the gaming world. This fast paced, campaign driven shooter takes you from the deadly streets of the middle East, to the cold and frost barren lands of the former Soviet Union, including the radioactive
wastelands of Pripyet and Chernobyl. You are thrown into the driver’s seat as you play two different
characters. The first is a fresh recruit of the British S.A.S named Soap, young and eager to show that
he can handle himself with the rest of the world's top counter terrorism unit. The other is a hard
hitting U.S. Marine named Jackson. Together you must rush to stop radical ultra nationalist terrorists
who seek to bring down the West.
The single player campaign plays out like you're watching the newest action flick at the
theater, with ground breaking cut scenes, and graphics that make you question weather or not you're
actually behind a computer screen, or out in the thick of the action yourself. Call of Duty 4 follows in similar food steps to it's predecessors, as it does not include controllable vehicles, and a short
campaign. These two short comings are tremendously overshadowed by the fact that this is simply one of
the highly constructed and beautiful first person shooters to date.
If you thought that this was all, you're in for another surprise. The multi player component of
CoD4: MW will have you sitting down for days on end with it's highly addictive game play. I suggest
telling your boss that you won't be making it to work for the next couple of days while you race against your friends to see who can reach the ultimate level of Commander first, with all it's glory. CoD4 features something that previous call of duty's didn't, which is the ability to create custom classes, which suit every style you can think of. Weather you're a silent sniper, or a bone crushing machine gunner, this has it all. Even once you've reached the highest level, you will never get bored as you try and complete the extremely fun and sometimes difficult challenges, and the endless hours of online play which you will be sucked into. Once you start, there's no turning back!
I recommend Call of Duty 4: Modern warfare for every combat lover, military enthusiast, first person
shooter addict, or even the new guy on the block, you won't be disappointed.
Single Player Characters
The game features following as playable characters:
- Lieutenant Price, who you play for the stage, All Ghillied Up, One Shot, and Heat is a member of the 22nd SAS Regiment.
- Sergeant John "Soap" MacTavish, who you play for the majority of the game is a member of the 22nd SAS Regiment.
- Sergeant Paul Jackson, who you play for a couple stages in Act 1 is a member of the 1st Force Recon Company, U.S.M.C.
- An unnamed weapons officer aboard an AC-130 gunship, is the person you play as on the stage Death from Above.
- Al- Fulani, is the president who is deposed and killed. Though not fully playable, the player has the ability to view Al- Fulani's surroundings, primarily to let the player experience the graphic engine.
The game features the following as unplayable characters:
- Captain MacMillan, takes part in the missions All Ghillied Up, One Shot, and Heat alongside Lieutenant Price. He is a member of the 22nd SAS Regiment
- Captain Price, is the Captain of the 22nd SAS Regiment now. He takes part in the same missions along-side Soap, as he is the commanding officer.
- Lieutenant Vasquez, takes part in the same missions as Paul Jackson, as he is the Lieutenant of the 1st Force Recon Company, U.S.M.C.
- Staff Sergeant Griggs, takes part in the same missions as Paul Jackson and Soap does, as he is a member of the 1st Force Recon Company, U.S.M.C. He also takes part in the Act 3 Missions alongside Soap.
- Gaz, takes part in the same missions as Soap does, as he is a member of the 22nd SAS Regiment. He is Price's second in command.
Online Play
The multiplayer in Call of Duty 4 uses a new and unique system that involves 3 sets of "Perks". With these Perks, you can edit your online soldier to the way you see would make the biggest impact ingame. The Create a Class allows you to create 5 completely different classes of your choice, pick whatever weapon you wish, etc.
Servers range from any sizes, however, the maps are mainly designed for roughly ~16-20 players, any higher you are going to be getting involved in a crazy shooting frenzy, but, people do like that so Call of Duty 4 has a little something for everybody.
