Background

The BattleGroup modication team was founded by Panzaman and Vimeous soon after the release of Battleeld 1942. Their aim was to develop the full potential of the game without changing the style of gameplay. There are three aspects which are focused on: teamplay, historically accurate equipments, and balance. Over the time the mod benefited from merging with other mods, as well as contents kindly donated from discontinued mods such as Operation Anubis and The Lost Battalion.

When the BG team switched their focus to BF2 (which has later merged with Frontlines to make Battlegroup-Frontlines), they handed the mod over to the [MOB] Clan. Some of the members, such as Sarge Surfat and Geronimo|Ger, decided to continue work on it and gather new modders for the team.

Gameplay

The infantry class system is relatively similar to the original Battlefield 1942, but with additional equipments for some classes and an additional 6th class called Rifleman. The Rifleman class is a all-round class whose kit is similar to the Assault/Gunner class but with a rifle, a rifle grenade, and a pair of binoculars for spotting enemies. The weapons given in the kits vary depending on the time and the theatre of war.

Given its own armour damage system, the mod tries to avoid one-hit kill situations in tank battles. APCs such as the Sd.Kfz 251 Hanomag and M3A1 will heal and supply ammunition to their own passengers as well as repairing nearby ally vehicles automatically.
