The hand held weapons of Battlefield 2 has a number of characteristics that determines how they perform. Understanding them helps you understand how to use your weapon optimally.

Contents

General

  • Number of Mags: The amount of extra magazines you carry for the weapon
  • Clip size: The amount of rounds in each magazine
  • Reload time: How long it takes you to put in a fresh magazine
  • Bullet speed: The travel speed of the bullet in meters/second.
  • Bullet Time To Live: How long the bullet exist in the game. Combine this with the bullet speed to find range
  • Equip time: How long it takes to get the weapon out.
  • Maximum damage: The max amount of damage a bullet will do before it is affected by any damage loss.
  • Minimum damage: The min amount of damage a bullet will do after it has been affected by damage loss.

Deviation

Deviation in Battlefield 2 simulates how steady you are holding the weapon. It adds an amount of randomness to the bullets trajectory, which increase with you own movement. So laying prone without moving will see very little deviation, while running and jumping will take it to the other extreme.

  • Deviation: Start/Per shot/reduction: This is the base deviation of the weapon, how much it increases per shot and how quickly it recovers.[1]
  • Standing Deviation Modifier: This is your base deviation modifier while standing
  • Crouching Deviation Modifier: Crouching will usually reduce the deviation modifier
  • Zoom Deviation Modifier: Using the zoom on the weapon will also reduce deviation, at the cost of movement speed and field of view.
  • Speed deviation Max/Forward/Strafe/Recover: The effect of movement on the weapons deviation, and how fast you recover.[2]
  • Jump Deviation Max/Per jump/Recover: The effect of jumping on deviation, and how fast you recover.[3]

Zoom

Zoom mode allows you to look through the sight of the weapon, which reduces recoil and deviation, but also reduced movement speed and field of view.

  • Zoom Recoil Modifier: How recoil is affected by the zoom mode on the weapon
  • Zoom Delay : Zoom is not instantaneous, there is a certain delay while switching between modes
  • Zoom Factor : The magnification of the scope.

Recoil

Recoil is the kickback of the weapon. The more recoil the more difficult it is to keep the weapon on target for the next shot. Using the weapons sights in zoom mode will reduce the recoil
