History of the Archangels
The Archangels started out in early 2003 under the leadership of Brandon "Azrael" Newburg and Alex Harris specifically for the MMOFPS by Sony; Planetside. We originally resided on an Art of War Central website with a simple forum and a small Teamspeak server run off of Azrael’s PC. During the build up towards Planetsides release many of the members played together during the beta, at release we decided to start up on the east coast Konried server. The early years were a great time, Planetside was a fresh game since very few of us had ever played an MMO before but after a year and a half numbers dwindled which ended with our beloved Konried turning into a ghost town. Sadly this resulted in the merging of Konried and Emerald and the end of an era. Slightly after this point many of our members decided that their interested lied outside of Planetside, and thus a number of different ‘chapters’ for other games were born. Shortly after this occurred there was a number of policy disagreements between chapter commanders and the clan leaders that lead to a split, the Planetside chapter lead by its long time leader Snipefrag moved off on good terms to create a new website. There was no bad blood at the time and members of the two groups were free to come and go as they pleased, during this time Azrael and Harris left to form their own off-shoot clans 47 Ronin and [SA] which participated in a number of TWL tournaments for Call of Duty whilst also playing Halo as a group. At this time the leadership of the Archangels Clan (not the breakaway Archangels Planetside Chapter) was passed to the next Prime Seraph Vendetta7 in late 2004. Later on in 2005 after a number of talks between Vendetta7 and Snipefrag it was agreed that a re merger would be possible and previous disagreements that had caused the initial separation could be remedied. So the Archangels clan and the Planetside chapter were combined again under one banner, as it was always meant to be. Many of our members had been playing the new Star Wars Galaxies chapter under the command of ?????????, we had our own elaborate guild hall with multi-multi-millions of credits worth of items in it, somewhere between our time grinding the Jinda caves and owning Tusken Raiders we got the MMORPG bug. Upon the release of World of Warcraft many of our members moved with the crowd and took up this epic game on Shattered Hand in the era of Skyfang, Kryis and Death and Taxes we were hooked. At the time of the Shattered Hand->Bloodscalp transfer the chapters members collectively decided to take the chance to move over and start a new life on a new server which didn’t have 20 minute queues to get in the game at prime time. At this time the WoW chapter merged up with IFNT an up and coming group lead its long time leader Runner. In a group effort IFNT became the front running guild in terms of PvE and PvP progress although MC, BWL, AQ40 and Naxxramas, because of the unwavering popularity of World of Warcraft very little went on with the rest of the clan, and with our Fearless leader Vendetta7 serving time in Iraq (as head of the intraweb, although out there that buys you a 28k connection) the clan began to stagnate. This carried on for a year and a half and eventually the Archangels clan was passed onto SilentRaider, over time studies and real life took its toll and activity progressed to a creep. Although most of the members kept in close contact we became fragmented, people playing many different games or simply not having the time to contribute to the community. In Mid 2007 the current era of the Archangels began, many of our members had grown irritated and bored of WoW for a number of reasons and a meeting was called by Snipefrag and 15 other core members from the old guard to decide exactly where were to go from that point. We still had a good solid Ventrilo server and a core of members to build from, so it was decided to resurrect The Archangels and start afresh. Where we go from here is down to us, as of September 2007 many of our clan base has caught the Lord of the Ring Online bug, with a chapter opening up in both Europe headed by Mark “Snipefrag” Chettle and America by one of the AA founders Azrael.
